How is Society Changing?
Enough with the depressing statistics and facts, the good news is that we are seeing serious changes in this generation for both masculine and feminine features. If you compare the 60's to today's standards, you can see the large impact we made in simply 56 years. Social media platforms have given women and men a chance to share their opinions to the world. The issues and hate crimes against these rights have gone significantly down in the past few years.
All of these ads have something in common. They challenge society's view of a role for men and women based on their interpretation of masculinity and femininity. All of them prove that society and the media don't have to have a negative affect on gender stereotypes, but also offers the platform to spread ideas and new societal norms. These messages show a positive message, that guys can play with dolls, girls can play sports, and guys can wear jewelry. They show that you are whoever you want to be, and don't have to live as a stereotype. This can affect people, especially kids, in an extremely positive way. Showing kids these images shows a role model that they can look up to, and insure that what they are doing is completely "normal." It will show them that they don't have to make the choice to hide as someone else, and ensure that their behavior is not weird of different from everyone else's. Personally, I believe these ads are a perfect platform and role model for people who may think their behavior is wrong. These ads are extremely progressive, and I hope we begin to see more in our society,
Besides ads there has been a huge movement in both the areas of changing stereotypical norms of masculinity and femininity. Activists, such as Emma Watson, have proven to go great lengths for equal treatment of both sexes. With these role models, many women and men have shared their opinions. Slowly, we are beginning to peel away these judgement and unfairiteis, but we still have a long way to go. If we want to see some real improvement, we need to stop sitting on the sidelines and letting other people do it for us and stand up for human rights. Only then, will we see a significant change.
